Jocko relates the process of reaching understanding to a concept called Commander’s Intent, which describes the overall goals, purpose, strategy, and desired end state. But you have to apply them not as a mechanic, but as an artist. There’s going to be nuances in everything, and so you have to take these principles that you learn and apply those principles. “When you’re working with businesses and working with leaders, you can’t just tell them, ‘here’s the problem and here’s the solution,’ because every problem is different.
